I hit up Value Village on Saturday and found three cashmere sweaters for a total of $18 and some change. There were a few more but the condition and colors weren't so great. I may have to go back and get them though because I am over the moon with how these fingerless gloves turned out.
Here I am pretending to be a hand model with not so good results (ignore the man hands, please!).
For the ruffled pair, I cut up the front of the sweater into two rectangles and two long strips. I zig-zagged the edges of the long strips and sewed a gathering stich down the center. On the rectangles, I did a little hem were the thumbholes are, sewed the ruffle on, hemmed the bottom and then sewed up the side, leaving the thumbhole open.
The other pair with the buttons was made from the sleeves. I did the thumbholes, bottom hem and side hem as above and just stitched on the decorative buttons.
I still have the back of this purple sweater left and two more sweaters - one black and one ivory with tiny cables. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to work on them this week.
Thanks for reading!

ReplyDeleteThanks girlie! A pair are coming your way - black, ivory, pink or lavender??? Ruffles or no ruffles? And I am in the process of putting a thumb on the next pairs. Definitely need a thumb!
ReplyDeletewhat is this wondrous thing called Value Village that has cashmere sweaters for six bucks, and more importantly, WHY DON'T WE HAVE ONE? those fingerless gloves are great. And relax, I think your hands are quite attractive. :-)

ReplyDeleteHi Larissa,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for visiting my blog. I really do love mmmcrafts - read it everyday! Your talent is inspiring.
I know - cashmere sweaters for $6! And one is a Nordstrom brand (Studio 121) in excellent shape. Too bad I am not an XS.
Okay, my friend, ruffles it is.
ReplyDeleteThese are great! I have a value Village here but (gasp!) I've never stopped in! Thanks for the tip! Hope you have a great Holiday!
ReplyDeleteHey Lori!
ReplyDeleteThe big city VV's have even better stuff - I live in the middle of nowhere so it takes some rummaging. Definitely check it out - maybe you can find stuff to use for your softies.
I hope your holiday is great as well!
I love those! And I wish I had a pair right now because it is so cold today!! We have Value Village but we call it Valooo Vilajjje to make it sound more upscale.
ReplyDeleteHey mo! The way you pronounce VV is too darn funny. I will be definitely shopping at the new, fancy Valooo Vilajjje in town now.
